UnoDOS is a family of GUI-first operating systems that runs on more than 20 kinds of hardware. pc64 is the modern-PC version: it runs on essentially any x86-64 PC built since about 2007, and it has been tested in emulators and on real hardware booting from a USB stick. The most recent pass, in August 2026, drove the whole desktop end to end on a fanless single-board PC and a recent laptop: 86 checks, every application launched, and the defects it turned up fixed and re-checked on the same machines.

See it running

Before you read any further, watch it work. Nothing in this film is a mock-up or an animation: it is the real system, recorded off a running machine, in one take per scene.

pc64, recorded from the running system in one take per scene: a cold boot, a shipped game, then a level of Doom played by a renderer written in Python. After that the window manager snapping and switching windows, the ten themes changing live, real Word and Excel documents opening in UnoOffice, the browser swapping JavaScript engines mid-session and then loading Wikipedia over HTTPS, music and images decoded by the machine itself, Studio compiling and running the same app twice - once in UnoC and once in Python - and the SSH client opening a shell on a Linux box across the network. The film streams from the UnoDOS website, so playing it needs a connection.

The pc64 desktop in the default Aurora Light theme. The Start button (bottom-left, the UnoDOS brand mark) opens the programs menu; a right-click anywhere on the desktop opens the same menu at the pointer. The rest of the taskbar is your open windows and the clock.

What you get

A real desktop

Window manager, taskbar, desktop icons you can arrange, and windows you can move and resize, all by keyboard or pointer. The Start button, a right-click on the desktop, or Ctrl+Esc all open the programs menu.

10 live themes

A modern Aurora look (light and dark) plus eight retro skins, switchable live from the Control Panel — with proportional TrueType text and a real UI-scale setting.

An office suite

UnoOffice: a word processor, a spreadsheet and a presentation designer that read and write the real .doc, .xls and .ppt formats.

Applications

A WordPad-class rich-text Editor, a real Files manager with a two-pane mode, System, Clock, a Canvas demo, plus Paint, Photos, Music, a Tracker, UnoAmp, three games and a 3D runner.

A web browser

Shows HTML, Markdown and CSS, runs JavaScript, and loads pages over HTTP and HTTPS.

A built-in IDE

Studio lets you write, compile and run your own apps in UnoC or Python on the machine itself - a syntax-highlighting editor, a real compiler and an AI assistant, no PC needed.

Networking

Connect over Ethernet, get an address automatically, and browse the web, including secure (HTTPS) sites.

Hardware support

Your screen, keyboard, mouse and trackpad, and USB. Sound plays through the machine's audio hardware (HD Audio or AC'97), and UnoDOS drives SATA, NVMe and eMMC/SD storage with its own drivers.

Add your own apps

Copy a .UNO file into the APPS folder and it becomes an app, with its own icon and menu row - no restart. Rename, hide or pin anything in the list. Installing an app.

Appliances preview

UnoDOS can boot a Linux kernel inside a window and give you a console to type at. It needs hardware virtualisation and a kernel you supply; the limits are on the Appliances page.
